About the wood: Eucalyptus
There are hundreds of eucalyptus species originating from Australia, several
of which were introduced into Arizona long ago. The tree is mainly used in
landscaping and for windbreaks, and the wood is not available commercially.
The artist obtains the wood when trees are cut down and discarded.
Eucalyptus is often highly figured, as exhibited in this particular piece.
